About
Why another online version of ACIM?
I want to make it as easy as possible to work through the lessons again this coming year.
While there are several sites that offer online versions of A Course in Miracles (1) (2) (3), I find none of them easy to read or navigate. None offers as many convenient ways to receive the lessons. My idea it to offer ACIM in a modern, attractive and convenient format that is easy to access and displays and prints well.
Additionally, the ability to receive the daily lesson in an email inbox, podcast, or subscribe to an RSS or Atom feed should make it easy to have a copy of the daily lesson readily available. I don’t know about you, but I find it both cumbersome and slightly embarrassing to haul a copy of ACIM around with me. That is especially so later in the year when the lessons suggest frequent practice periods. It’s easy to pop open an email, podcast, RSS news reader or web page. And since I work in front of a computer all day, I’ll always have access to the day’s lesson.
Audio Content
Below each lesson is a small audio player that allows you to listen to the day’s lesson. Click on the right facing triangle beside the small speaker icon to start playback. Click on the || symbol to stop the player.
The audio player is Flash based and requires that you have the Flash plugin installed and enabled. If you either don’t have Flash or simply prefer to download the audio file to your computer, a download link is provided just below the player.
Don’t expect a professional rendition. I’m reading this myself, and have far from an announcer’s voice or professional sound studio. The content should be clear enough to understand and provide an alternative for those who cannot or prefer not to read the lessons. If you can offer a higher quality rendition, please contact me.
Copyright Information
On April 6, 2004, Judge Sweet of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled that the first published version of the book A Course in Miracles (now referred to as “the Criswell Edition”) was, in 1975, placed into the public domain. Judgment to this effect was entered on April 27, 2004. As a result, the registered copyright protecting that version of the work (No. A693944) was rendered void.
The public domain version is the one used in these lessons. A newer version remains under copyright owned by the Foundation for Inner Peace.
Since the copyrighted changes cover additions to the Text, the Clarification of Terms and the Text Preface, and formatting changes, this older version of the Workbook for Students retains the same content. More information on these differences is available at MiracleStudies.net. For a detailed overview of the history and politics related to A Course in Miracles see the Wikipedia article.
Site Details
Lessons will be published just after midnight GST. That’s 4:00 p.m. the day before where I live on the West Coast of the US; 7:00 p.m. on the East Coast. If you live in Australia, you’ll get the lessons in the late morning of same day. That’s the best I can think of to do and still have the lesson arrive at a usable time for the largest number of potential users.
The Journal
I maintained a spiritual blog, Mystic Cowboy, for about two and a half years, posting a bit over 1500 entries, quotes, links and thoughts.. Then I had nothing much to say for the last couple of years so I let it go. Now the urge to write is coming back. I’m more than reasonbably certain that I won’t maintain the 10 post per week schedule that I managed last time. I don’t intend to. But the urge is upon me and you can visit the journal section of the site to see what evolves.
